She finds inspiration in themes of rebirth, antiquity and nature.
Stephanie Pijper is an award-winning Scottish artist whose work captivates viewers with her astonishing attention to detail. She creates meticulous studies in surrealism, still life paintings of Japanese Kintsugi art, and exquisite animal portraits that explore themes of rebirth, antiquity, and nature. After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a BA Hons in Fine Art, Stephanie traveled extensively through Europe, developing her artistic identity and unique perspective.
Cultural Heritage and Artistic Approach
Born in the North East of Scotland, Stephanie draws inspiration from her diverse multicultural family background of Scottish, Dutch, Polish, and Chinese heritage. This mixed cultural identity serves as a uniting thread throughout her practice, informing her unique artistic vision. In her paintings, figures and objects inhabit a transient world between Symbolism and Realism, exploring tensions between direct representations and their psychological undercurrents. Her brightly colored allegorical arrangements of figures, birds, flora, and antique objects reveal both a desire to be seen and to remain hidden.
Recognition and Global Presence
Stephanie's remarkable talent has earned her several prestigious accolades, including The Pauline Fay Lazarus Award for work using the human form, third prize in The Winsor & Newton Young Artist of the Year Award, and The People's Choice Award in the Royal Birmingham Society of Art Portrait Exhibition. Since returning to Scotland in 2010, she has exhibited widely throughout the United Kingdom at venues including the Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair, Edinburgh Art Fair, and Borders Art Fair. Her work is held in private collections across the UK, USA, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Japan, reflecting her growing international reputation and the universal appeal of her artistic vision.
