Life and How to Live It, Documenting the subtlety of life
Life and How to Live It is a testimony of the quiet every-day.

In this slice-of-life exhibition, we invite you to slow down and take a closer look at the objects and surroundings that accompany you throughout life. There is so much beauty, serenity, and ease in these everyday elements, and Life and How to Live It  focuses on showcasing just that.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS

Rose Strang, Lorna Sinclair, Jane Cruickshank, Mary McDonald, Marissa Weatherhead and Alison Dickson form a superb collective that dive into the themes of this exhibition. They each highlight aspects of domestic life in their own unique ways, playing on different feelings and moods within familiar spaces.

  • Rose Strang sheds elegant light on inherited objects and captures the balmy mood of sentimentality.
  • Lorna Sinclair plays in the realm of whimsy and creates pockets of magic in images of beloved gardens and greenery.
  • Jane Cruickshank grasps the still life in a complete sense. With stunning technique, she paints objects that seize your attention in their simplicity.
  • Mary McDonald presents lush florals that remind us why having fresh blooms are good for the soul, with exquisitely colourful compositions that burst life into any room where they are hung.
  • Marissa Weatherhead’s semi abstract still lifes keep the eye searching and finding exciting new shapes and scenes within the compositions, always tantalising the viewer’s senses.
  •  Alison Dickson paints tablescapes that are simple and attractive, inciting a sense of warmth and comfort while peaking one’s imagination.

comfort through objects and places

We return to small elements of our lives repeatedly throughout our days, weather that be vases populated with new seasonal blooms, a beloved back garden, or a dining table. What these things provide to our lives are often overlooked and underappreciated. What each of our artists have achieved in this exhibition is an amplification of the ordinary. Placing these beloved items and places at centre stage and letting them sing.
