He has always looked to convey an emotion
Ian sees art as both a narrative and expression, no single viewpoint can ever express the connection between the viewer and artwork. He has always looked to convey an emotion rather than a simple representation of nature.
He paints what he feels, rather than what he sees. The slightly abstract nature of much of his artwork leaves the space for the viewer to add their own emotional link to the work.
His passion for the environment originally came from studying geological sciences at university, but he was unaware that this connectivity with nature and coastal landscape would express itself through art rather than science.
For Ian, art is integral part of living, where sharing his own passion with others has expressed itself in working with those who might feel disconnected from a perceived professional creative world. Forever attempting to break down boundaries, sharing the wonder of creativity across genres and methods with as many as possible.
Tending to be a restless spirit, he has moved to new horizons, the last two years from a long standing base on the west coast of Scotland to the Dyfi valley in west Wales searching for new landscapes, linguistic and new creative challenges.
