There’s an interesting connection between ancient methods of divination and modern climate science...both are efforts to predict the future.
Rachel initially studied history of art for a year but realised she was more interested in the physical processes of making art. She moved and studied BA fine art at Dundee, graduating in 2021. During her studies, she became interested in metal casting and spent her time making in the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design’s foundry. Since graduating, she's been working for Antony Gormley in his Northumberland based foundry.
Rachel is interested in archeology, geology and mysticism. A lot of the time, her sculptures begin with a found object, for example a rock on the beach, or are inspired by an artefact she's seen in a museum. She is very interested in mystical artefacts and monuments, like Aztec obsidian mirrors, standing stones and libation vessels. She has always been very interested in spirituality and mysticism on a personal level, and these interests have seeped quite naturally into her art making.
