As an artist, Gill works in series to explore themes that are pertinent both personally and culturally. Drawing is a core part of her practice and allows a freedom to achieve spontaneity and emotion in the work. She uses the human form as a way to convey ideas about humanity but does not portray individuals or make portraits. The Dutch Old Masters used the term 'Tronies' for images that sound out the spectrum of human expression. She prefers to use materials that have meaning and has developed a unique way of drawing with graphite, beeswax and metals.
