Centering her work around events of social significance, Lizzie's practice is influenced by varying subject matter that inspires her. She looks for references within the media, podcasts, novels, and even through word of mouth. Her paintings are concerned with the slow abstraction of photographic imagery. In this process, she interrogates and distills images of historical, cultural, and social significance. Footage that signifies events of such relevance is then transformed into a study of colour and form. Through Lizzie's painting process, the final painting retains some essence of its informing image with the initial photographic reference and the painting itself each becoming distinct evidence of the event.

 

Conveying a certain amount of movement and tension creates a sense of narrative in Lizzie's works. Often, the images end up invoking feelings of uneasiness, replacing the subject of the informing image and becoming the main story of the painting.
