The sea has always been a profound presence in her life, a thread that connects her past and present, a symbol of connection, history and transformation.
Kerry Souter is a Scottish abstract artist working predominantly in acrylic paint and mixed media. She creates intuitive, ethereal, multi-layered artworks with a strong focus on texture and collage. Her work is an emotional response to her exploration of the rich textures and organic pattern found in the coastal landscape of Scotland.
Born in 1970 in Dundee, Scotland, she studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen where she received a BA(Hons) in Textile Design in 1992. Her textile background took her career in many directions over the years before she began painting and exhibiting professionally in 2020.
Currently living in Ayr, Kerry has representation with several U.K. galleries and her work can be found in private collections around the U.K. and abroad.
The inspiration for my Kerry’s work is deeply rooted in her personal and emotional connection with the coastline of Scotland. The sea has always been a profound
presence in her life, a thread that connects her past and present, a symbol of
connection, history and transformation.
Walking along a shoreline stirs in her a sense of awe where the raw power of nature feels both humbling and inspiring. She is drawn to the shoreline for moments of quiet reflection, solitude and connection with the natural world.
