Her work is an emotional response to her exploration of the rich textures and organic patterns found in the coastal landscape of Scotland.

Kerry Souter creates intuitive, ethereal abstract paintings inspired by Scotland's coastal landscapes. Working from her studio in Ayr, she develops multi-layered artworks that capture her emotional response to the natural environment through rich textures, organic patterns, and thoughtful collage elements.

Textile Background and Artistic Evolution

Kerry's artistic approach is deeply influenced by her textile design education, having graduated from Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen in 1992 with a BA(Hons) in Textile Design and Surface Decoration. This foundation continues to inform her current mixed media work, where textural complexity and layered compositions create depth and visual history.

Creative Process

Working primarily with acrylic paint and mixed media, Kerry develops her paintings over weeks or months, methodically building layers of texture, marks, semi-transparent glazes, and collage. This process of adding and subtracting with each application creates works that resonate with both intimate detail and expansive emotional depth, reflecting her personal connection to Scotland's coastal environments.
