Brendan is an Edinburgh based sculputral artist who is intesly concerend with the materials of his creation.

Brendan creates simple sculptural works from discarded, used or freely accessible materials. He observes the time we live thorugh as extreamly un-sustainable and consumeristic. He sees that our individual success is often evaluated by surveying the possessions that we surround ourselves with. Brendan create artworks that challenge these established value systems.

Brendan's creative entry point is a response to found materials or objects. Curiosity about a particular material invariably leads him to imagine and evaluate its potential. His commitment to the material culminates in a presentation of it in some alternative form or other. The method of construction is often influential to the outcome of the piece.

One of Brendan's approaches involves identifying a material or object that is available in numbers, generally something that presents itself from his local surroundings and during the course of everyday activities. For example. post-consumer waste from packaging, nitrous oxide bulbs, coffee stirrers, etc. He also works directly with natural materials such as chalk, marble, wood or seagrass. The act of collecting is a significant part of the process.
