Caroline finds mindfullness through her creative process and conveys a sense of journey through her artworks.

Caroline paints because she loves solving problems — even ones of her own making. She finds a sense of mindfulness through applying paint to a surface and something quietly thrilling about the weird, complex simplicity of making something unique out of virtually nothing. When all the problems are finally solved, she feels it in hergut: the painting needs nothing more — and nothing less.

Caroline's work is inspired by age-worn surfaces, but at its heart it's an expression of a journey — from a soap opera-like existence to the calm, secure, happy place where she is now. It reflects her desire to be comfortable with imperfection and vulnerability, and with being seen.

She works in acrylic on paper, canvas and wood, adding collage papers and pencil marks. She also prefers a limited palette and has found that restriction enhances rather than limits creativity.

She never begin to work with a plan and has little idea at the outset how a painting will turn out. She moves from free, expressive play through many layers of patching and revealing, towards a final stage of more precise design. When she steps back at the end, she expresses  frequently having no idea where the painting came from. Its meaning usually reveals itself to her during the process, though sometimes not until the very last mark is made.
