Sonya is a ceramacist focusing on the ecological intersection between art and Earth.
Sonya began her journey toward ceramics when she learned pottery in junior school. She went on to study ceramics, BA (Hons), in 1995 and completed her education with an MFA in Fine Art Ceramics in 2023. During her MFA she researched the quesiton, can eramic vessels become activators for wellbeing?, leading her to 'develop a deeper, more authentic relationship with clay and nature'. Her practice is grounded in themes of connection, presence and ecological attunement.
She completed a two year post graduate residency at 'Emerge', Bath Spa University and continues to develop her artistic practice in conjunction with research and craft. Sonya is funded to explore and experiment organic colourants and glaze development while being a creative mentor for the Bath Spa postgraduate residency.
Sonya's work is in galleries across the UK and travels to national ceramic shows. Sonya is a member of both the Craft Potters Association and the West Country Potters Association.
