Inspired by natural spaces and forms, Nerine's work is a combination of the observed, experimental and the imagined.

Nerine Tassie, born in Fife, graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2002 with a degree in Fine Art. Natural spaces and forms provide the foundation for her artistic expression, with particular emphasis on the coastal waters and woodlands surrounding her home. These ever-changing and sometimes intimidating landscapes offer endless inspiration for Nerine's work. Her paintings explore the mystery of nature while creating a powerful sense of atmosphere and connection to place. Recently, she has been investigating the relationship between composition and framing within her artwork, experimenting with this balance to create greater depth of focus for viewers.

Nerine Tassie's Distinctive Technique

Nerine employs various layering techniques in her creative process, combining digital compositional work with paint media. She embraces the physicality of paintwork, experimenting with diverse base layers and materials to develop unique experiences within each painting. Through pouring, layering, absorbing, and mark-making, she crafts rich surface textures that give each piece its own distinctive quality and presence. This exploration of materials and painterly techniques ensures that every artwork develops its own unique surface character.
