Philip studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Due to his father's untimely passing, he was unable to complete his course and went directly into the world of commerce, not lifting a paint brush again for thirty-five years. Upon returning to his easel, he soon established a singular, instantly recognisable handwriting and a particular gift for capturing light; it is the latter, whether consciously or subconsciously, which resonates with the viewer.

Based in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, Philip has steadily accrued a loyal band of private collectors. His original paintings and giclee prints can be found in High Street galleries throughout the length and breadth of the United Kingdom.
