Part-Time Gallery Assistant
We have an opportunity for a Part-Time Gallery Assistant to join the team at our prestigious Stockbridge gallery from Wednesday 30 October, 2024.
We're looking for a proactive individual for four days a week to help support our gallery operations and maintain our high standards.
You'll be responsible for drafting new artist profiles, setting up gallery events and exhibitions throughout the year and supporting the gallery team during peak times. If you've got excellent organisational skills and you're looking for the opportunity to expand your gallery experience and build long lasting relationships, you might just be who we're looking for.
Who We're Looking For
- Someone with an arts degree, or a highly visually literate individual. Postgraduate arts degrees, especially in History of Art, are highly desirable.
- You'll be an articulate and creative writer, able to deftly describe exciting new exhibitions, draft informative artist profiles and wax lyrical about outstanding artworks.
- With demonstrable social media experience, you'll create and curate our social media presence, drafting regular posts, increasing our followers, and engaging our online community.
- You'll manage the stockroom efficiently, ensuring that all artwork is clearly labelled, accessible, and easy to find.
- You'll support the gallery team with re-hanging as and when required, including printing and displaying price tags and artist biographies for all artworks on show.
- You'll support the gallery team in generating new sales.
- You'll support the gallery team in organising and running artist talks and other gallery events and exhibitions throughout the year.
- You'll be familiar with Gallery Management software, preferably Artlogic, or willing to quickly learn how to use and update it.
- You can provide after-sales follow up with clients and provide feedback on client satisfaction.
- As this role also entails moderate physical duties on a daily basis, we'll need you to be able to handle such tasks whilst working.

Graystone Gallery is one of Edinburgh's newest fine art destinations, specialising in contemporary Scottish painting and sculpture. Located in Hamilton Place, Stockbridge, the gallery is situated close to the heart of Edinburgh's art scene and regularly hosts a busy programme of exhibitions and events.
Since its foundation by Rob and Lesley Briggs, the Graystone Gallery team have expanded their knowledge of modern and contemporary Scottish art, offering beautiful landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes as well as outstanding abstract and semi-abstract pieces by internationally collected artists.
