    Our Exhibition Philosophy

Our Stockbridge location hosts rotating exhibitions throughout the year, each thoughtfully designed to showcase the diversity and excellence of contemporary Scottish art. We believe that art should be accessible while maintaining its ability to inspire and provoke thought.

This philosophy is reflected in our pricing approach, ensuring that both first-time buyers and committed collectors can find something meaningful. The gallery space influences our curation decisions: we select works that create dialogue with each other and with the physical environment of Stockbridge itself.

As you can see from our exhibition images, we display a range of artistic styles, from vibrant, colourful contemporary works to more subtle, atmospheric pieces, reflecting the diversity of Scotland's artistic talent.

  • The Heart of Edinburgh's Art District

Charming cobbled lane in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, with historic stone buildings and the distinctive St Stephen's Church clock tower visible in the background, showcasing the area's characteristic architectural heritage.
The historic cobbled lanes and St Stephen's Church tower create the perfect backdrop for Graystone Gallery's presence in Stockbridge, Edinburgh's culturally rich art district just minutes from our Hamilton Place location.

    Stockbridge's Artistic Heritage

Stockbridge has evolved from a quaint village into one of Edinburgh's most culturally rich quarters. Its historic architecture, with Georgian terraced houses and cobbled lanes, has long attracted creative souls.

In fact, Henry Raeburn, a famed 19th-century painter, made his home here and helped imbue the area with a bohemian charm that persists today. Nearly two hundred years after Raeburn, Stockbridge remains home to many of Edinburgh's creative residents and hosts artist-led spaces like the Patriothall Studios, known for innovative contemporary art exhibitions.

Our gallery exterior, with its distinctive charcoal grey façade and elegant signage, maintains the architectural character of Hamilton Place while establishing Graystone Gallery as a contemporary presence in this historic art district.

    Our Place in the Community

Graystone Gallery builds on Stockbridge's artistic tradition by spotlighting contemporary Scottish art and supporting the local art ecosystem. As one of Edinburgh's newest fine art destinations, we work with both emerging and established Scottish artists, fostering meaningful connections between creators and collectors.

Our regular artist talks and exhibition openings contribute to the neighbourhood's cultural vibrancy, while our accessible approach to art collecting strengthens Stockbridge's reputation as an inclusive art district. As you can see from our opening night photographs, these events bring together diverse groups of art enthusiasts in lively, engaging conversations about Scottish art.

The welcoming atmosphere of our openings reflects our commitment to making art accessible to everyone, from seasoned collectors to those just beginning their art journey.
