Colours of Our Country is an exhibition that regards light as a dynamic, transformative force on Scottish landscape. The semi-abstract and abstract artworks in this exhibtiion take hold of 'landscape' as subject matter and expand upon it, reinterpreting the astonishing and everchanging topography of our country.
EXHIBITING ARTISTS
Artists Madeleine Gardiner, Connie Liebschner, Tamara Williams, Katy Sawrey and Lynn McGregor come together for this exhibtiion in a brilliant display of of skill and how they not only portray the Scottish landscape, but truely consider it from their unique perspectives.
- Madeleine Gardiner paints atmospheric and dreamy impressions of seascapes and landscapes. The presence of light and how it plays and refracts in the atmosphere is center stage in her semi-abstract compositions.
- Connie Liebschner's work takes on the shape of landscape in a way that captures the temporal nature of being immersed in these locations. Focusing strongly on the point of contact between water and land, she communicates the contradictions found in nature through acrylic, gesso and ink.
- Tamara Williams approaches landscape through abstraction, leaning into the potency of colour and movement observed in the elements. She finds harmony in the many interacting parts that make up a whole view.
- Katy Sawrey's observes how light plays on hills and lochs and lets that inform how she paints her geomatric abstract landscapes. She builds up transparent layers of colour until the landscape presents itself in its entirety.
- Lynn McGregor is driven by colour when she paints, and focuses on the texture and movement observed in a specific place. Her paintngs encapsulate the feelings and memories experienced when gripped by the beuty out-of-doors.
A LANDSCAPE IN FLUX
One will never see the same landscape twice. The casting of shadows, the atmosphere, and the perspective one approaches the expereince with informs the view. As Marcel Prout declared, 'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.' These spectacular artists each showcase thier singular perspectives and interpretations of the Colour's of Our Country through art that inspires, engages, and enthrals.
