DAPPER DOGS & DOWNTOWN

>> NEW EXHIBITION FEATURING EDINBURGH ARTISTS LEON ANDERSON & WENDY DAVIDSON

>> Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, 38 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, EH2 4HQ

>> 1st July - 5th October 2024

Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel and Graystone Gallery are pleased to announce 'Dapper Dogs & Downtown', an exciting new exhibition by Edinburgh based artists, Leon Anderson and Wendy Davidson. With 20 evocative pieces on show, art lovers will enjoy Leon's unique approach and Wendy's warm perspectives.

Leon takes a fresh look at familiar capital streets, inviting us to appreciate and value this historical city. He also shares some of his inspired dog portraits, highlighting the traits that make them so loveable. "I'm a passionate artist and animal lover and I like to combine the two where my style and approach derives from the old masters and fine traditional artwork," says Leon.

Wendy brings a joyful vibrancy to Scotland's capital city, injecting light and vitality into our familiar streets. A self-taught multi-disciplinary artist, she's inspired by the many and varied cityscapes of her home town. "I use my connection to people and places to explore themes I feel passionate about," she states.

Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel Manager, Kieran Quinn is delighted to showcase Leon and Wendy. "As a dog friendly destination, we're very happy to welcome back Leon and his Dapper Dogs. He was a big hit with our two and four legged guests last year," he said. "We're a proud Edinburgh hotel and I'm sure our guests will agree both Leon and Wendy's Downtown scenes perfectly capture the spirit of our stunning city."

NOTES TO EDITORS

About Leon Anderson

Based in South Queensferry, Edinburgh, Leon Anderson merges his love of dogs and wildlife with 17th - 19th Century portraiture to re-envision each character. Each painting gives a sense of the animal's personality, bond with their owner or background - all with a touch of humour. A self-taught artist, Leon started with commission work in 2016. From there he has created a body of work which has featured in a range of galleries and private collections as far away as Japan and the USA. He has recently expanded his remit to embrace evocative cityscapes. Following a successful show in 2023, Leon is delighted to return to the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel.

About Wendy Davidson

Wendy Davidson loves to recreate the stunning and iconic architecture and scenes of her adopted city of Edinburgh. She enjoys portraiture and any subject matter which inspires her can find its way to her easel. Painting mainly in oils, she likes to capture the atmospheric essence of a scene at varied times of day. The effect that sunlight and different light sources have on a scene fascinates her, as she strives to represent the impression and emotions that a scene evokes. It's this warm, human approach that filters through in her works,  as she draws and paints the scenes that move her.

About Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel

Perched on the edge of a picturesque private garden in the New Town, Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel blends traditional glamour with the Scotland of today. Outside, a classical Georgian exterior stands as an ode to the past while inside, past the lobby, a glass-topped central courtyard is abuzz with activity. The energy is so fresh and effervescent that you'll want to bottle it and bring it home.

About the Exhibition
'Dapper Dogs & Downtown' will be open to the public from 1st July 2024 to 5th October 2024 and Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel will be hosting a Private View of the exhibition in July on a date soon to be announced. The hotel is open to the public and entry is free.
