Louise Lacaille
This collection focuses on the behaviour of light, while building on ongoing themes of the natural world within my work. The organic light of bioluminescent plankton and fireflies belongs to the night-time, illuminating their surroundings with a gentle glow. Unseen light beams cause specks of dust in the shadows to glow like distant stars. Bright sunlight makes rain sparkle and splits into spectral colours on the surface of crystalline waters. Charged clouds split the sky with bolts of sharp electrical light.
Through many thin glazes of colour, softened marks in blended layers, and bright daubs over muted backgrounds, I have explored the ways paint might begin to capture manifold qualities of light.
