Inspired by the work of the French Impressionists and the Glasgow Boys

Ken Roberts, a versatile Scottish artist with a rich background in graphic communications, has cultivated a lifelong passion for art that began in his childhood. Born during the Clydebank Blitz, Roberts spent his early years as an evacuee in the small Scottish town of Milngavie, where his artistic journey first took root through regular weekend visits to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery where the work of the French impressionists and the Glasgow Boys inspired him to go on to study commercial art and life drawing at Glasgow School of Art.

Early Foundations

Roberts' artistic education began at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, where he studied commercial art and life drawing. Inspired by the French impressionists and the Glasgow Boys, he developed a deep appreciation for visual expression. His educational background was further complemented by printing studies at Stow College in Glasgow, laying the groundwork for his multifaceted creative career.
