Each artwork brings colour and warmth to the environment as ambient light reflects from it.
Robert Pereira Hind is a fine art photographer who has developed a unique approach to capturing the essence of nature through his distinctive mixed media series. With a BA and MA in photography from the London College of Communication, Robert has established himself as an internationally exhibited artist who transforms botanical subjects into secular icons.
Nature's Sacred Representation
Robert's mixed media series "Out of Eden" aims to elevate the status of plants and trees by drawing inspiration from religious iconography. By placing botanical photography and acrylic paint images against a gold leaf background, he references the gilded Buddhas of Tibet and Laos, as well as Catholic icons of the Italian baroque. This approach reminds viewers of the spiritual and intrinsic value of Mother Nature.
Artistic Process and Evolution
Each artwork is meticulously crafted, layering organic photographic ink pigment, acrylic paint, shellac, and art glazes over gilded wooden boards. An extraordinary aspect of Robert Pereira's work is its dynamic nature - over 15-30 years, each piece will slowly oxidize and mature. The golden background will develop a light tarnish, becoming increasingly atmospheric and characterful, with ambient light reflecting warmth and depth. Currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Robert continues to find inspiration in the trees, forests, and wildflowers of his surroundings and beyond.
