Gary's art is fast, rushed, pushed - and made... with love.
Born in Edinburgh, Gary spent many years switching practice from cartoons and comics to photography and returning to painting in 2009. He completed a BA Hons in Painting at the University of Edinburgh in 2019 and an MFA in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art in 2021. Currently based at Marchmont Creative Spaces near Greenlaw, Duns, Gary is predominantly a landscape painter in oil and gouache, with drawing mainly in charcoal and conte.
He believes art needs to be quick, expressive, immediate, hurried - that art is therefore a remembered glance, of something he's seen in a hurry and not had time to look closely. It is an interpretation of a brief visual memory. Gary's art is fast, rushed, pushed - and made... with love.
