Gary's art is fast, rushed, pushed - and made... with love.

Gary Anderson is a Scottish artist whose expressive landscape paintings capture fleeting visual memories with remarkable immediacy and energy. Born in Edinburgh, his artistic journey has been varied-moving from cartoons and comics to photography before returning to painting in 2009.

Academic Background

Gary's formal education includes a BA Honours in Painting from the University of Edinburgh (2019) and an MFA in Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art (2021). This academic foundation complements his intuitive approach to creating art that is "quick, expressive, immediate, hurried"-an interpretation of brief visual memories rather than detailed observations.

Artistic Approach

Currently based at Marchmont Creative Spaces near Greenlaw, Duns in the Scottish Borders, Gary works predominantly as a landscape painter using oil and gouache, with drawing mainly in charcoal and conté. His philosophy centers on the idea that art is "a remembered glance," something seen in passing and recreated with both urgency and deep affection-work that is, in his words, "fast, rushed, pushed-and made with love."
