Artistic Inspiration and Landscape

She frequently portrays the same landscapes repeatedly, exploring their transformations through changing weather and seasonal shifts. Her preferred subjects include the East Lothian beaches of North Berwick, Gullane, and Yellowcraig, the vast empty beaches of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides, and the dramatic Shetland coastline.

Allison Young's Creative Process

Her artistic approach involves walking along beaches, often in the rain, with a sketchbook and camera in hand. This process allows her to escape daily life and reconnect with her memories. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas, Allison employs a diverse range of techniques-from bold, thick brushstrokes depicting crashing tides to delicate, thin paint applications that capture the subtle nuances of dawn's shifting skies.
