Tania paints her semi abstract landscapes from her studio in London, focusing on how the landscape has been effected by human presence.
Born in London, Tania moved to Brighton after receiving her MA at the Royal College of Art, London and BA at West Surrey College of Art and Design. She has now been living and working from her studio in Brighton for over twenty-five years.
Tania has exhibited throughout the UK and internationally since 1992 and has received several awards throughout her career. She has also completed many commissioned projects.
She specialises in semi abstract landscape paintings done in oil. Her work focuses on landscapes of the British Isles, including Southern England and especially that of Sussex, Scottish Highlands and South Wales.
Tania is fascinated with how generations of human activity have shaped the landscape of the countryside. She is drawn to what is left behind through the consequence of human presence. In this 'humanised countryside' her work captures the various patterns and repetitions of tracks and paths that might cut through a field or hill. She is drawn to the detritus abandoned by human enterprise; the disused paths, broken fences, desire lines that have slowly formed over time.
The imagery she creates is a mixture of memory/ remembrance, drawn or photographed features, and source material of something more tangible, e.g. pattern or marks left behind from a deliberate application onto the surface of the paint.
