Edinburgh-born artist Rose Strang has been captivated by landscapes throughout her life, developing an expressive brushwork style that responds to elements both observed and felt in the natural world. Her creative process draws inspiration from her relationship with nature and the memories it holds, often incorporating research into history, literature, and music to deepen her artistic vision.

 

 

Education and Professional Development

Rose holds a BA Honours degree in Fine Art and Related Arts from Chichester University (1997) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Museum and Gallery Studies from St Andrews University (2001). In 2018, she achieved professional membership with the Society of Scottish Artists, marking significant recognition of her artistic accomplishments.

 

 

Exhibition History and Achievements

Throughout her career, Rose has exhibited extensively across the UK, including prestigious venues such as the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh's City Art Centre, and Open Eye Gallery. Her work has reached international audiences through exhibitions at Corte Real Gallery in Portugal and Gallery One in Berlin. A notable achievement came in 2020 when she was commissioned by Folio Society London to create paintings for their 2021 publication of Nan Shepherd's Scottish literary classic, "The Living Mountain." Times critic Giles Sutherland praised her work, noting how she "brings the whole force of experience and love of nature into her work," highlighting the energy, experimentation, and layered techniques evident in her paintings.
