The unique landscape of the Scottish west coast and its many islands have always attracted Marion.

Marion Thomson is a Scottish painter who works primarily in oils, creating both landscapes and still life compositions. After graduating from Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art, she pursued a career in theatre, film, and television as a costume designer before dedicating herself to painting full-time in 2000.

Artistic Inspiration

Marion finds endless inspiration in the Scottish west coast and its islands, from Islay in the Southern Hebrides to Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Over years of exploring these regions on foot and bicycle, she has developed a deep appreciation for their distinctive characters, atmospheres, and communities. The rapidly changing weather, intense quality of light, and vibrant colors of these coastal landscapes feature prominently in her work.

She currently lives and works from her studio in a small village near the Campsie Fells in central Scotland, where she also tends a garden growing fruits and vegetables.
