Working with clay allows a line of communication through form.

Working with clay allows Sue a secondary voice, a line of communication through form. A constant theme in Sue's work is the natural world. Her current work explores the shapes and surface textures inspired by trees and bones. A key shift in her practice comes from reflecting her focus on the purely aesthetic over the functional.

Sue has had a long association with clay, starting at school and gaining direct entry to North Staffordshire University. She always knew that clay was her medium and that it allowed her to encompass the various aspects of her life. Through clay she expresses her emotions and reactions to the world around her.

Using hand-building techniques, she produces bottle-like forms which are repeatedly scraped to reveal organic openings. In Sue's sculptural works, deliberate junctions are created by detaching and re-joining the outstretched necks of her works, where collars or shoulders evolve.
